A man 41 years received very severe verdict of a high court in England: forbidden love. This decision invites the public reaction about civil liberties and autonomy of private life.
Chief Judge, Mostyn, was forced to impose that decision on the consideration that the man known as Alan did not have sufficient mental capacity to understand the health risks of sexual intercourse. Alan has an IQ of 48, far below the average standard of 100.
The judge ordered the court to monitor the implementation of the verdict, and to provide sexual education to him. “This is the best decision for his future,” Mostyn said, as quoted by the Telegraph pages.
The case came to court following a few incidents that made Alan previously. In addition to same-sex relationships, Alan was also accused of having molested children at a health clinic and public transportation.
Under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 rules that apply in the country, judges have the authority to make decisions concerning life and death is considered someone who does not have the intelligence to determine their own lives. (kd)
